Happy Kwanzaa Everyone! – Holiday Advertising Cheers Up the Marketplace

The holiday season, in American culture, comprises of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. To Americans, the holidays mean family, togetherness, tradition, food, gifts and faith.

For advertisers, holiday advertising starts as early as September. As these advertisers bombard the marketplace with holiday cheer and deals, they foresee an opportunity to promote brand products to a larger audience. One may wonder, are companies really advertising to their loyal customers? Are these companies looking to reach new customers through holiday messaging by offering discounted product promotions?

Clever markets look for opportunities to promote holiday messaging in a manner that is non-exploitative. For example, our client, Publix Super Markets, respects and understands the celebration of Kwanzaa. Publix understands that the tradition of Kwanzaa is important to their African American customers, therefore each year Publix promotes the celebration of Kwanzaa.

Kwanzaa is a celebration, celebrated by millions throughout the African American community. Kwanzaa was created to introduce and reinforce seven basic values of African culture.  The celebration builds and reinforces family, community and culture among African Americans. The celebration of Kwanzaa starts on December 26th and goes until January 1st.
